Since 2017, Yayasan Peta Bencana has built, maintained, and run an open source software for community-led disaster information sharing that now supports over 350 million residents in South East Asia. In 2019, a pivotal development partnership with CivicDataLab further propelled the evolution of the software.

Together, Yayasan Peta Bencana and CivicDataLab have developed a robust methodology encompassing technical, social, cultural, political considerations to contextualize and localize the software for various localities.

To scale the project, manage the code, and expand the network, Yayasan Peta Bencana and CivicDataLab recognized the need for a broader coordinating body. This led to the creation of the Climate Emergency Software Alliance (CESA), which oversees software deployments, supports participating organizations, and helps new groups set up and launch local instances.
